English Premier League top side Arsenal secured their first Champions League win in the new Champions League format as they beat Ligue champions Paris St-Germain 2-0 at Emirates Stadium. The London team took control of the game and scored two first-half goals to register their first win.

The goals were from former Chelsea and Bayern Leverkusen German star player Kai Havertz. The player gave a good header beyond the reach of the goalkeeper and an excellent free-kick from Nigerian British international Bukayo Saka which drifted in past the PSG Italian shot stoper Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG had their moments in the game but luck was not on their side.
Nuno Mendes and Joao Neves hit the woodwork either side of the break, but was not able to find the back of the net. Kai Havertz’s goal came in the first 20 minutes of the game when he beat Donnarumma to Leandro Trossard’s inviting cross to head home, before the keeper was deceived by Saka’s set-piece from near the touchline as he was unsighted in a packed penalty area.
Arsenal’s victory was not just an announcement of their readiness for the league but also how matured they have become. They built on a fine opening 45 minutes which brought them the two-goal advantage and they were good enough to maintain the pressure from France visitors.
