Super Eagles of Nigeria and Atalanta star player Ademola Lookman has raised his chances of becoming the next African footballer of year. The former Everton forward starred as Europa League defending champions Atalanta claimed a comfortable Champions League win over Ukrainian club side Shakhtar Donetsk at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Shakhtar, who are playing their home matches at Schalke’s ground due to Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia, struggled to trouble the visiting defence and have one point from two games.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria star player Ademola Lookman who has been linked to be the African player of the year following his stellar performance in the last African Cup of Nations and the 2023/24 Europa League has now placed the bar higher for anyone to beat him in the award. Ademola Lookman is now the most qualified player to be named the next African player of the year after Victor Osimhen another Super Eagles star player.
