Google Mix-up Sparks Ice Prince vs Portable Debate on X

By Fasuyi Tolulope Samuel

A recent search for Nigerian rapper Ice Prince Zamani on Google has stirred controversy, as an image of fellow artist Portable appears on the search result page.

What many initially believed to be a Google error was actually an effect of a news report from The Guardian, which covered Portable’s rising prominence and seemingly overshadowed Ice Prince in the search engine.

The incident has sparked reactions from Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter), leading to humorous and sometimes puzzled commentary.

As The Guardian’s article spotlighted Portable, his image seemingly took precedence over Ice Prince’s, a move that fans of both artists found amusing.

Many expressed their thoughts in typical Nigerian fashion on social media. User @skidy_jay humorously noted, “Google done old,” while @OloriofOloris remarked, “Google done dey craze.”

The laughter continued with @iszzyiniho1 stating simply, “It is very funny,” and @SmilesTochi adding, “Which Google you dey press?”

The commentary didn’t end there; @CryptoworldNG joked, “Ice Prince go need change him name to Ice Princess,” highlighting the perceived overshadowing.

Despite the humorous reactions, @healthycorner_1 took a more insightful view of the situation, pointing out that the issue arose from a news report by The Guardian, which possibly caused Portable’s image to dominate the search results. The tweet reads, “From The Guardian News, scroll for others not related to search.”

Ice Prince Zamani, born Panshak Zamani, is one of Nigeria’s most respected rappers. He rose to fame with his breakout single “Oleku,” which became one of Africa’s most remixed songs. Over the years, Ice Prince has remained relevant with several hit songs, cementing his place in the Nigerian music scene.

On the other hand, Portable, born Habeeb Okikiola, is a newer artist with a more unconventional style. Known for his energetic and often controversial personality, he gained fame with his hit song “Zazoo Zeh,” featuring Olamide.

Portable has since continued to grow in popularity, attracting attention both for his music and his flamboyant persona.
