Halima Abubakar, a Nollywood actress, has been indefinitely suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) for her alleged involvement in spreading slanderous rumors about her fellow actors.
This decision follows an investigation into accusations that she orchestrated a smear campaign by feeding false and damaging information to bloggers.
The AGN cited “professional misconduct” as the reason for the suspension, emphasizing the importance of protecting the reputation of its members.
Abubakar has been embroiled in controversy for years, most notably her ongoing legal battle with Apostle Johnson Suleman.
In 2022, she publicly claimed that she had a relationship with the pastor, who allegedly deceived her by stating that he was separated from his wife.
Abubakar further accused Suleman of paying bloggers to spread false information about her. Suleman responded with a defamation lawsuit, demanding that she retract her statement.
Earlier in 2024, a court ruled in Suleman’s favor, ordering Abubakar to pay ₦10 million in damages for defamatory remarks. The court also mandated that she publicly apologize and refrain from making further claims against him.
Abubakar’s failure to adequately defend herself in court and her persistent use of social media to air grievances has only deepened the rift, culminating in her suspension from the AGN.
The actress is yet to respond to the recent suspension and being labeled the one behind the circulation of scandalous in regards to colleagues through bloggers.
