CAF 2024 Award: Boniface not on the List

The Confederation of African Football CAF has released the name of players for the CAF 2024 Awards and Boniface, Mohamad Salah, Kudus and Osimhen are missing.

The list has two Nigerians, two Moroccans, one South African, one DR Congo player and few other players. The argument now is how Victor Boniface and Nwabali names are missing from the list despite their contributions to their various clubs.

CAF 2024 Player of the Year Nomination

The Nigerian players that made the list are Super Eagles skipper, William Troost-Ekong and Ademola Lookman. They were ten players in total nominated for the award and the other eight Mbemba, William, Hakimi, Rahimi, Adingra, Guirassy, Tapsoba, and Gouiri. This players are running for the prestigious award. Both Ademola Lookman and Troost-Ekong are been nominated for the very first time in their careers.

Ademola Lookman enjoyed a stellar year at club international level. He was instrumental in their Europa League victory as he scored a hat-trick to help his team Atalanta win the trophy. The 27-year-old scored three goals in seven appearances for NigerIa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Troost-Ekong on the other hand won the Player of the Tournament at the AFCON 2023 finals. The 2024 CAF Awards will hold in Marrakech Morocco on the 16th of December. The omission of Victor Beniface has got many talking but it’s said that said that it could be because he was not in the AFCON.

But on that, the argument now is, when Emrick Aubameyang won the award he did not play for Gabon that year. In fact it is said that it was after he won the award that he went back to play country football.

As for Diaz, it can be said that it’s because he had not switched allegiance to Morocco when Morocco played AFCON.
