Nollywood Icon Kunle Afolayan Mourns the Passing of Beloved Mother, Adesola Afolayan

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and actor Kunle Afolayan is grieving the loss of his mother, Adesola Afolayan, who recently passed away at the age of 81.

A prominent figure in Nigerian cinema, Kunle shared his sorrow in an emotional Instagram post, calling her “an irreplaceable figure in his life” and celebrating her fulfilling life and legacy.

In his heartfelt tribute, Kunle wrote, “It’s hard to accept, but she truly lived a fulfilling life. Our dear mother, Maami Omoladun Ayanladun Afolayan, has gone to rest (1943-2024). Please keep us in your prayers.”

The filmmaker also expressed gratitude for her life and requested support from fans to help his family through this difficult period. Kunle Afolayan, a vital figure in Nollywood, is celebrated for his contributions to Nigerian cinema through his production company, Golden Effects Pictures.

His works include critically acclaimed films such as October 1, The Figurine, and Citation, which highlight his dedication to storytelling and cultural representation.

Afolayan’s creative journey is a tribute to his family’s enduring legacy in the Nigerian entertainment industry, where his father, the legendary Adeyemi Afolayan—known as “Ade Love”—first paved the way.

The Afolayan family remains a revered institution in Nollywood, with Kunle’s siblings, Gabriel, Moji, and Aremu Afolayan, also leaving their marks in film and television.

Together, the Afolayans continue to honor their family’s impact on Nigerian arts and culture, inspiring audiences both locally and internationally.
