The victory or Libya over Rwanda has helped Nigeria qualified for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. The Super Eagles however had to do their own home work to qualify. After Libya beat Rwanda 1-0 they played out a 1-1 draw and that was enough to give the qualification ticket even though a game is still to play.
Libya Victory Gift Super Eagles Qualification
Libya surprised host Rwanda with an 84th-minute goal from Saad Mohamed, reviving their hope of qualification. The Super Eagles played Benin later the same day and drew with Benin. Nigeria don’t really need a win to qualify after the victory from Libya.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, have now qualified for their 21st appearance at the tournament, which will take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The Super Eagles were the runners-up in the 2023 edition after losing to host nation Ivory Coast.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen equalised for the Super Eagles late in the game after Benin had scored front their corner kick of the game. The game ended 1-1 and it place them top of the table with 11 points. They will be hosting Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Monday.
As things stand in Group D, Rwanda has five points, and Libya has four points while Benin have seven points behind leaders Nigeria. The Super Eagles of Nigeria has now joined Cameroon, Senegal, DR Congo and Algeria among other ten nations to qualify for the Morocco 2025/26 AFCON tournament.
