Xavi Vilajoana a former Barcelona academy director has openly criticised the club for selling Marc Guiu to Premier League Chelsea. The teenager who joined Chelsea this summer has been very impressive since his arrival at the club.
In a chat, Xavi Vilajoana said Barca should have kept the young boy and give him a proper time to develop under their supervision.
Xavi was not happy with the decision to sell player as he said: “I didn’t understand it. I would have done everything possible to keep him. It was obvious that he had a lot of things to improve, but he had a goal-scoring ability.”

He also said: “He was the type of player who would have developed and improved very quickly here. For a centre forward who shows his face in the youth team and we don’t make an effort to keep him…?”
the director also talked about Marc Guiu’s team mate Marc Cucurella, they were team mates at Barcelona before Cucurella joined the Premier League. Xavi said: “So we had to find a way out for Cucurella. With (Alex) Grimaldo there was no such option because he preferred to go abroad directly.”
