Innocent Ujah Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has etched his name as a pioneer in Nigeria’s music scene.

However, his illustrious career has been punctuated by several controversies that have kept fans and critics talking.

Here are five notable instances where 2Baba found himself at the center of public storms:

1. The Plantashun Boiz Split and Subsequent Feuds

In 2004, 2Baba’s departure from the renowned group Plantashun Boiz led to its disbandment.

This move ignited tensions among former bandmates, particularly with Blackface, who accused 2Baba of performing songs they co-wrote without proper credit.

The discord escalated when Blackface alleged that 2Baba’s hit song “African Queen” was his original creation. The dispute was eventually settled in court, with Blackface receiving writing credits and royalties for the song.

2. The Cancelled Nationwide Protest

On January 25, 2017, 2Baba announced plans to lead a nationwide protest against the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The Lagos State police commissioner attempted to halt the protest, citing security concerns. Amidst rumors of his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS), 2Baba released a video on February 4, 2017, stating that he was canceling the protest due to security reasons.

He later denied claims of being arrested or pressured by the DSS.

3. Publicized Marital Struggles

2Baba’s marriage to actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia has faced public scrutiny over the years. On January 26, 2025, he announced their separation and impending divorce on Instagram.

This public disclosure drew criticism from media personality Toke Makinwa, who chastised 2Baba for bringing private matters into the public eye, suggesting he should be ashamed for handling the situation in such a manner.

4. Departure from Longtime Management

In March 2024, after a 20-year partnership, 2Baba parted ways with his management company, Now Muzik.

The mutual disengagement was described as amicable, with both parties expressing gratitude for their time together.

However, the sudden nature of the split after two decades of collaboration led to widespread speculation about underlying issues.

5. Alleged Beef with John Obi Mikel

2face Idibia got many Nigerians when he released the evergreen song titled “Only Me” which was said to be a banter song to criticize Nigerian football superstar, John Obi Mikel.

2baba alleged that the former Super Eagles captain who at that time was playing for Chelsea FC in the UK ignored him when they met.

After many years, Mikel Obi has responded stating that 2face had ignored him when he was trying to become somebody too while in the city of Jos.
