Manchester United Smiled into Round of 16

Manchester United have advanced straight to the Europa League last round of 16 after beating Basel 2-0. Goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo saw the Premier League side smiled back to Old Trafford. The Premier League side now remains the only club in Europe that is yet to loose in the ongoing Europa League after Lazio and Galatasaray lost their games.

Manchester United Advanced into Round of 16

Manchester United got the opener in the second half of the game from Diogo Dalot after the wing back found Mainoo’s low pass. Eight minutes later the England midfielder got on to the scoresheet by side-footing home Alejandro Garnacho’s cut-back.

Ruben Amorim opted to start Mainoo in a more advanced position and the midfielder rewarded his coach well. The goal is the player’s first goal of the season, having not hit the net since United’s win in last season’s FA Cup final.

Manchester United finished the match strongly, ending the competition’s league phase in third, and will play one of Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or FC Midtjylland in a last-16 tie in March. The win means they have now avoided a two-legged play-off round in February.

Before the match, the manager had commented saying the players need the win so they can have a massive rest and it went in his favour after all. The manager rested some of the players as Amad Diallo and Garnacho were on the bench. He only introduced them after the first half.
