Popular Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky, has revealed that he recently fell victim to an online romance scam, losing $990 in the process.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Bobrisky expressed disbelief and disappointment over the incident, stating that he never imagined he could be duped in such a manner.
“I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody,” he wrote. “This guy came into my DM, and we’ve been talking for almost a few months now. He calls me almost every day. He said he lived in the USA but moved to Canada.”
According to Bobrisky, the alleged scammer had been in regular contact with him over several months, engaging in frequent calls and conversations while feigning romantic interest.
The fraudster reportedly built trust by maintaining consistent communication and expressing a keen interest in Bobrisky’s personal life.
The situation escalated when a potential client from the United States reached out to Bobrisky for an advertisement and offered to pay a deposit through CashApp.
Since Bobrisky did not have a CashApp account, he sought assistance from the man he had been communicating with.
“Few weeks later, someone in the USA reached out for ads. She said she needed a Cash App to pay her deposit, and I asked this guy talking to me. He said he would give me his own. As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately,” Bobrisky recounted.
Following the scam, Bobrisky posted screenshots of their conversations and a photo of the alleged scammer on his Instagram page. He used the opportunity to advise his followers to be cautious when dealing with strangers online, especially those who seem overly interested too quickly.
The incident has sparked reactions across social media, with many expressing sympathy while others noted the importance of remaining cautious in online interactions—especially in cases involving money or romantic involvement.
