A startling revelation has emerged from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), as Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer Pastor E.A. Adeboye, recounted how a church pastor allegedly absconded with $8,000 meant for missionary work, abandoned his wife, and started a new life in the United States.
Speaking during a men’s programme organised by the church, Pastor Folu shared the incident, which has since gone viral through a circulated video.

According to her, the pastor—originally from Ekiti State—was assigned to Cape Town, South Africa. On one of her missionary visits to the city, she was scheduled to minister at his parish, only to discover that the church service was being held inside a restaurant.
While she was preaching, a woman suddenly walked in and began removing chairs, abruptly ending the service—an indication that the venue was not owned by the church but rented.
Disturbed by the situation, the leadership of the church decided to assist the parish with a $8,000 donation to help them begin the process of acquiring a permanent worship space.
Pastor Folu explained that the pastor suggested investing the money into a used vehicle that would be leased to a tourism company in South Africa. He claimed the proceeds from the lease would be used to fund the church’s land purchase.
The proposal, seen as innovative, received Pastor E.A. Adeboye’s approval. However, the pastor never followed through. Instead, he vanished with the funds, abandoned his wife in South Africa, relocated to the United States, and reportedly remarried.
“He ran away with the money and left his wife. Today, he’s living in America and has married someone else,” Pastor Folu revealed.
The story has sparked a wave of reactions across social media, raising concerns about accountability and trust among church leaders managing foreign missions and funds.
