British actor Idris Elba has showered glowing praise on Lagos, describing Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub as “the most amazing city in the world.”
Elba made the remarks during an interview with ETalk TV on the red carpet at the TIFF Tribute Awards held on September 7. The award-winning actor reflected on his memorable time filming Dust to Dreams in Lagos and expressed admiration for the city’s unmatched energy and creative spirit.
“Lagos, if you have never been there, is the most amazing city in the world. I had a great time. The talent there is incredible,” Elba said in a video that has since gone viral on social media.
The actor revealed that his stay in Lagos left him with unforgettable memories. “I left the city with a wealth of incredible memories,” he added, clearly impressed by the experience of working in one of Africa’s most vibrant cities.
One of the standout moments for Elba was seeing legendary British-Nigerian singer Seal (Henry Olusegun Samuel) step into an acting role for the project while proudly embracing his Nigerian roots.

“I got to have Seal acting. He has acted before but this is one he is acting in his accent. You know, his Nigerian heritage. That was a real blessing,” Elba said.
He also highlighted a significant musical moment tied to Dust to Dreams. According to Elba, music played a big part in bringing the film to life, and the collaborative performance remains one of his favourite memories from the shoot.
“One of the big standout moments there is this really amazing song that we wrote for the film and they performed it at the end of the song. Seal and a lovely artiste called Konstance,” he explained.
Known for championing African talent, Elba has frequently spoken about the creative potential on the continent and Nigeria’s growing influence on the global entertainment industry. His latest remarks further cement his reputation as a strong advocate for African storytelling and artistry.
With Dust to Dreams expected to put a global spotlight on Nigerian talent, Elba’s endorsement of Lagos as a cultural powerhouse is a boost for the city’s fast-growing creative scene. His words are likely to resonate with both Nigerians and international fans eager to see more African narratives on the big screen.
