Veteran Nigerian actor Ganiu Nofiu, widely known as Alapini Oosa, has publicly expressed his frustration over the lack of recognition and compensation for his support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
In a viral video currently circulating on social media, the seasoned actor recounted how he and over a hundred colleagues threw their weight behind Tinubu’s candidacy, campaigning vigorously across the country—even in remote areas—with high expectations of appreciation or reward for their efforts.
“We thought our messiah had come,” Alapini said, expressing deep disappointment at being ignored post-election.
He noted that many entertainers invested their time and energy to promote Tinubu’s political agenda, genuinely believing in the change he promised.
He made particular reference to fellow actor Olaiya Igwe, who caused a stir in 2022 with a controversial show of support at a beach where he appeared stark naked, all in the name of campaigning for Tinubu.
Despite such bold actions, Alapini revealed, “He hasn’t received anything in return.”
Alapini also questioned the contributions of the president’s son, saying, “How many hospitals has Seyi Tinubu visited in Yorubaland?” — a rhetorical remark aimed at highlighting the disconnect between the Tinubu family and grassroots supporters who helped win the election.
The veteran actor’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment among entertainers and grassroots campaigners who feel abandoned after the election victory. His tone carried a warning as he hinted at what might await future political campaigns: “Maybe what people will get for the 2027 re-election campaign is curses.”
Alapini Oosa is popular in Yoruba Nollywood movies and he featured mainly as an herbalist character.
