Veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Ibrahim Chatta, has addressed questions surrounding his absence from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The popular thespian made it clear that it was a personal decision — not a snub from the organisers. Speaking during an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask with Isbaeu, Chatta revealed that his non-participation was simply because he didn’t submit any film for consideration.
“I am not interested in the AMVCA. Why should I be praying for something that I am not interested in? Whenever I am interested to go for the AMVCA, I will make a film and submit the film so that I can be rated and check if I was worthy of the award,” he stated firmly.

Known for his compelling roles in Yoruba-language films, Chatta also suggested that his introverted nature might be a reason he’s often overlooked, even when awards are being handed out.
“I ask myself why I have not been invited. You know, I am not a very social person, so maybe they think if they give me [an award], I won’t show up. Maybe that was why I wasn’t invited,” he added.
The respected actor, who has built a reputable career spanning decades, emphasized that while he respects the AMVCA, he does not see it as a defining accolade.
“Do you know how many awards I have? Nelson Mandela award, Pink Award from Wole Soyinka, I have one from Odunlade Adekola and many others,” he noted, downplaying the significance of missing out on the AMVCA.
Ibrahim Chatta had a starring role in some of the Nollywood movies nominated in the recently concluded AMVCA which includes films such as “House of Gaa” and “Lisabi: The Uprising”.
