Nigerian star Ademola Lookman was on target last night as his side experienced their first loss in the Champions League. The Nigerian who is the strongest contender for the African player of the award scored in their 3-2 defeat. The former Fulham and Everton player scored but his goal was not enough to rescue points for them.
Former PSG forward Kylian Mbappe who had earlier stated that their match against Atalanta is a must win. He scored his 50th Champions League goal and Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham were also on target as Real Madrid secured the win against Atalanta.
Atalanta have not lost a Champions League this season but the defending champions Real Madrid they struggled in Europe this season. The have lost three of their five games and last night’s game was a must win.
France international Mbappe got the ball rolling with a goal after ten minutes of play with a smooth finish. It was his 12th goal since joining Real Madrid in the summer. Atalanta however equalised on the stroke of half time when Charles De Ketelaere scored from the penalty spot.
Real battled back after the break as Vinicius Jr found the bottom corner with a neat finish. England star boy Bellingham then scored the third for the visitors to make it 3-1. Ademola Lookman gave Atalanta hope with his 11th goal of the season.
The Nigerian found the net to give the home team a hope and chance to fight back but Real held off the late pressure. The win moved Real up to 18th in the 36-team league and three points off the top eight, who qualify automatically for the knockout stage.
Atalanta on the other hand is in the ninth place position with 11 points.
