Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has publicly apologized to fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Senator Ned Nwoko, weeks after launching a series of verbal attacks against them on social media.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Angela acknowledged that her past actions and words were hurtful, adding that recent personal experiences have forced her into deep self-reflection.
The apology follows reports that Mercy Johnson had petitioned the police over alleged cyberbullying and defamation from Angela.
Addressing Mercy directly, Angela expressed regret for her emotional outbursts and admitted that her words, though stemming from a place of pain, caused unintended damage.
“It’s no secret that there have been some difficult issues circulating on social media between Mercy Johnson and myself. I am human, and when my emotions take over, I speak from the heart. Once I’ve expressed myself, I forget about it and move on, but I realize now that my utterances, whether spoken from pain or not, were hurtful,” she wrote.
“I feel so sorry having realized how this gets to you, Mercy. Your mental health is very important now and ever & I wouldn’t wish you and your family worse. That’s not my nature, and you know it. Do find a place in your heart to forgive me.”
Angela also extended her apology to Senator Ned Nwoko, acknowledging that her response to what she termed an “unprovoked bashing” was inappropriate and out of line.
“My sincere apology also goes to Senator Ned Nwoko. I understand that my anger in trying to make a reply didn’t find you in a good state. It was a reaction to an unprovoked bashing and attack that was blown out of proportion. I truly reacted in a way I now recognize wasn’t pleasant. I cannot intentionally disrespect you for whatever reason,” she said.
She recalled her past involvement in Nwoko’s political campaigns and family events as a reminder of their cordial relationship before the fallout.
“I’ve also been the target of lies, betrayal, and unwarranted attacks… but I forgive everyone who has hurt me and leave them to face their own conscience,” she added.
Angela concluded her message by emphasizing the need for peace over conflict, stating, “All these have made me realize that being at peace is better than war or fight. I deeply regret my actions and am sorry.”
