Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about her close friendship and musical collaborations with Grammy-winning artist Wizkid.
Ayra Starr revealed the light-hearted bond they share behind the scenes.
Speaking in a recent interview on the eTalk show, Ayra Starr described Wizkid as a “ridiculously funny” person who often ends up exasperated by her constant efforts to make him laugh.
“Wizkid is an amazing friend and an amazing person to be around,” she said. “I could learn so much from him. He’s hilarious and we have the same humour, so he’s always sick of me because I try to make him laugh or something.”
The ‘Rush’ crooner admitted that their friendship wasn’t always this playful. Recalling their first studio session together, she confessed that she had been incredibly nervous and intimidated by Wizkid’s legendary status in the industry.
“During my first session, I was panicking because it was Wizkid,” she said. “But now we’ve done our music video together and I’m older. He’s always telling me how much I’ve grown.”
As their relationship grew, so did her admiration for Wizkid’s relaxed personality and support. Ayra said the time spent with him helped her gain confidence and fully appreciate his artistic brilliance.
“He’s such an amazing artist and having such an icon working with me shows how much of an amazing artist I am… I had to sneak that in,” she added with a laugh.
Ayra Starr and Wizkid have teamed up on various music projects, including their recent fan-favourite collaboration “Gimme Dat,” which has received widespread acclaim and solidified their creative synergy.
