Popular Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, stirred conversations with a playful jab at top music stars Wizkid and Burna Boy during his performance at the 2025 edition of AY Live.
While delivering his routine, Basketmouth praised Davido for his consistency and loyalty to his brand and team. He highlighted Davido’s decision to use his real name as a smart move, contrasting it with Wizkid and Burna Boy, who adopted stage names that he suggested might not age well.
“David has been consistent. He even used his real name—Davido,” Basketmouth said. “He’s been hitting the stage with a 100-man entourage and still maintains that number to this day.”
Turning to Wizkid, the comedian quipped:“Wizkid gave himself ‘Wizkid.’ Him forget say him go grow old. Now he’s struggling to change the name but nobody gree. ‘Machala?’ Na lie. You’re a Wizkid. ‘Big Bird?’ Na lie—you’re still a kid.”
He added, “Wizkid no be as e dey be before. Before, him dey whine waist, dey do choreography on stage. But now? Him just wear singlet dey sing, ‘She tell me say…’”
Basketmouth didn’t spare Burna Boy either, poking fun at the ‘Boy’ in his name, subtly suggesting it may not fit a grown man who has reached international acclaim.
While the crowd roared with laughter, reactions online were swift and divided.
