Popular music video director Clarence Peters has opened up about how he unknowingly repeated many of the mistakes made by his father, Afro-Juju legend Sir Shina Peters.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, Clarence revealed that it was only with time and reflection that he realised the parallels between his life and his father’s.
According to him, the evolution of technology and the shifting societal landscape shielded him from suffering the same level of consequences his father did.

“I made every single mistake my father made. I’m just lucky that time and tech saved me from it being as catastrophic as his own,” Clarence said during the interview.
He explained that the moment he understood this, he forgave his father — even before they had a conversation about it. That moment of clarity, he said, marked a turning point in his personal journey.

“So, the moment I realised that, I forgave him instantly even before we had a conversation. That would be 2014/15. That was when I became an adult. That was when I began my journey into adulthood. I’m still on the journey. You’re always on the journey,” he added.
Born to legendary parents — music icon Shina Peters and veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura — Clarence’s upbringing was anything but conventional.
He has previously spoken about the emotional toll of growing up in a famous family. In an earlier interview with Chude Jideonwo, Clarence disclosed that his mother once contemplated terminating her pregnancy. However, she reportedly changed her mind after becoming convinced that he was the reincarnation of her father.
Clarence has not shied away from discussing the complex relationship he has with his parents. He has particularly spoken about his father’s lifestyle and how it influenced his views on relationships and women.
Despite his own struggles, he says he is actively working to avoid repeating the same cycles.“I’m not perfect,” he admitted, “but I’m learning. And I think that’s what matters — to recognize the pattern and strive to break it.”
Clarence Peters’ candid reflections continue to shed light on the challenges of legacy, personal growth, and healing within Nigerian celebrity families.
