Court Gives Update on Mercy Chinwo’s EFCC Case Against EeZee Tee

By Fasuyi Tolulope Samuel

The ongoing legal battle between gospel musician Mercy Chinwo and her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachi, popularly known as EeZee Tee, has been postponed until May 14, 2025.

The High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, adjourned the case due to administrative procedures, delaying his arraignment in the suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Chinwo’s behalf.

The case, which has drawn significant public attention, centers on financial and contractual disputes between Chinwo and her former record label boss.

During Thursday’s court session, presiding judge Justice Alexander Owoeye announced the adjournment, citing procedural delays.

EeZee Tee, who was present in court, has consistently denied all allegations. His legal team, represented by Senior Advocates Chikaosolu Ojukwu and Dr. Monday Ubani, expressed confidence in a favorable outcome. Meanwhile, Bilikisu Buhari appeared on behalf of the EFCC.

Dispute Over Contract Terms

Mercy Chinwo has clarified that her legal action is not about reclaiming her music catalog but rather about transparency in her former contractual relationship.

She insists that she wants the first three pages and the execution page of her 2017 contract—allegedly altered by EeZee Tee—made public.

According to Chinwo, EeZee Tee attempted to extend her original five-year contract to twelve years in 2019, a proposal she declined due to her career plans. She further alleged that this refusal led to bullying and isolation by her former manager.

In response, EeZee Tee has strongly refuted these claims. In a statement issued by his legal representatives, Maxwell Opara & Associates, he dismissed allegations of forgery and financial mismanagement as misleading.

His legal team accused Chinwo of breaching their contractual agreement by diverting booking revenues into her personal account while still signed to EeZee Concepts.

Chinwo, however, has denied these allegations, maintaining that she only seeks transparency regarding the terms of her past contract. With the case now adjourned, all eyes will be on the court proceedings in May as both parties prepare to present their arguments.
