Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has disclosed that he has never met American rapper Nicki Minaj in person, despite working with her on two songs.
The singer made this revelation during an interview on the Bootleg Kev podcast while discussing their collaborations.
Davido explained that their connection began when he noticed Nicki Minaj following him on Instagram. Seizing the opportunity, he reached out via direct message, and to his surprise, she responded the next morning.
“I have never met her [Nicki Minaj]. It’s crazy,” Davido said. “We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we connected was through DM.
I noticed she was following me, so I texted her. The next morning, she replied, and I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested.”

The collaboration resulted in Holy Ground, a track from Davido’s 2020 album, A Better Time. According to Davido, Nicki Minaj recorded and sent her verse within two days. However, their plan to shoot the music video in Los Angeles fell through as Nicki was expecting her child at the time.
Despite not meeting in person, their professional relationship continued, leading to a second collaboration. In 2023, Nicki reached out to Davido for a feature on her album Pink Friday 2. Davido described her as incredibly supportive, highlighting their strong artistic connection.
Davido is one of Nigeria’s top artistes having received two Grammy award nominations in recent times and several other major award wins. The singer is set to release is fifth studio album titled “5ive” which has its lead single, “Be There Still” already making numbers on music platforms.
