Davido Shares Why He Chose Music Over Corporate Life

Davido made this known during a recent program with students.

At the recent “Life After School” event hosted by the Noella Foundation, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, opened up about his choice to pursue music rather than a corporate career.

The 31-year-old, who holds a Business Administration degree from Oakland University, revealed how he diverged from the conventional path taken by his family, where his father, Adedeji Adeleke, is a leading business figure.

During the event, Davido shared that his decision was motivated by a passion for music rather than the traditional career trajectory expected in his family.

He acknowledged the privileges he grew up with, explaining that while he had ample opportunities in the business world, his drive to create music led him down a different path.

Reflecting on his journey, Davido noted he never crafted a CV nor looked for typical employment. Instead, he followed his dream, contrasting his career with those of his siblings, who have successfully built their careers within the family businesses and beyond.

“Coming from a family with a strong expectation to enter the corporate world, I knew I wanted to forge my own path,” he said.

Davido emphasized the importance of following one’s passion, even when it defies family expectations or norms, offering his story as an example of success on an unconventional path. He hopes his story will encourage graduates to explore their passions after leaving school.
