Florence Otedola, internationally recognized as DJ Cuppy, recently took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to share introspective thoughts on her affluent upbringing.
The daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola admitted that, during her childhood, she was unaware of her family’s immense wealth and the privileges it afforded her.
In her candid post, DJ Cuppy wrote:”Growing up, I didn’t fully realise just how privileged I was. I never had to worry about anything tbh. Thank God I see it now. What felt normal to me is something someone else is praying for. Gratitude changes everything.”
Femi Otedola, DJ Cuppy’s father, is a prominent Nigerian businessman with substantial investments across various sectors, including energy, finance, and real estate.

Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, he is the son of the late Sir Michael Otedola, who served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1992 to 1993. Femi Otedola’s business ventures have significantly influenced Nigeria’s economic landscape, particularly through his majority stake in Geregu Power Plc, a leading power generation company in the country.
As of March 1, 2025, Forbes estimates Femi Otedola’s net worth to be approximately $1.7 billion, positioning him among Nigeria’s wealthiest individuals.
Despite her affluent background, DJ Cuppy has carved out her own path in the entertainment industry. She has gained international acclaim as a DJ and music producer, performing at numerous high-profile events worldwide.
Beyond her music career, Cuppy is deeply involved in philanthropic efforts. In September 2024, she launched the Cuppy Africa Steinhardt Scholars Fund at New York University (NYU), aimed at providing financial support to African graduate students facing urgent financial needs.
Additionally, she moderated the opening ceremony of the United Nations’ “Summit of the Future,” reflecting her commitment to global youth engagement and education.
