Renowned gospel minister Dunsin Oyekan has shared an emotional reflection on the sixth anniversary of his wife’s passing, offering insight into his journey through grief, healing, and unwavering faith.
Oyekan lost his wife, Adedoyin, on May 18, 2019, six years after they were married in February 2013. The couple had two children together. Since her passing, he has kept many details private, choosing instead to focus on his spiritual growth and calling.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 40-year-old singer revealed how he confronted the pain rather than avoiding it. He explained that instead of suppressing his emotions, he leaned into worship, finding solace and strength in God’s presence.

“Most people wondered how I survived,” he wrote. “I didn’t numb the pain, I channeled it! I found closure in the Presence of God, understood from God’s perspective, accepted His sovereignty and found joy in His presence.”
He ended the post with a powerful declaration: “6 years after, with tears of joy, all I still have to say is GOD IS GOOD!”
Dunsin Oyekan is one of Nigeria’s most impactful gospel artists, known for his deep, spirit-led worship and prophetic sound. Fondly called “The Eagle,” Oyekan has consistently delivered soul-lifting music that resonates with audiences far beyond the walls of the church.
Born on November 5, 1984, into a musical family, Oyekan started playing the guitar at age 10 and grew up under the strong spiritual and musical influence of his late father, Pastor Gbadebo Oyekan, who was also a music lover and founder of the Evangelical Baptist Church.
Dunsin’s breakout moment came with songs like “Open Up,” “Fragrance to Fire,” and “Imole De,” which quickly established him as a powerful worship leader with a prophetic edge.
His lyrics are marked by intense passion for Godo, often calling believers into deeper intimacy and revival. He has graced major stages locally and internationally, and is known for not charging to minister—his focus is ministry, not performance. This ethos has earned him a reputation for authenticity in a world where commercialization often overshadows true worship.
Oyekan continues to release spiritually rich albums such as Code Red, Kingdom Now, and The Glory Experience (Songs of Zion), with many songs recorded live, preserving the raw power of spontaneous worship.
