Football New Rule to Trouble Onana, Pickford, Enderson Others

The likes of Andre Onana of Manchester United, Enderson of Man City and many top ball playing goalkeepers are set to be in trouble as new rule drops. This new rule passed by lawmakers IFAB will utter how goalkeepers handle the ball now. According to reports trying to run down the clock is punished with an amendment to the current six-second limit.

The new law states that instead of being punished with an indirect free kick for holding onto the ball longer than an eight-second period, a corner will be awarded. This change will drastically effect the way many ball playing goalkeeper now play.

The likes of Onana of Manchester United and many other goalkeepers like Everton goalkeeper Pickford will suffer this. A tactic which is used to delay play by this goalkeepers will now inturn affect them if they are not careful. This new law is set to take effect from next season.

Match officials will use a “visual five-second countdown” to warn goalkeepers of the looming cut-off with the change coming into effect from the start of July.
