Award-winning filmmaker Funke Akindele has openly reaffirmed her stance as a feminist.
She emphasized that feminism does not equate to disrespecting men, particularly one’s husband.
In a viral video, Akindele shared her thoughts on gender equality, highlighting the importance of mutual respect in relationships. She stressed that being a feminist is about advocating for women’s rights and economic empowerment, not undermining men.
“I’m a feminist, but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” Akindele stated.
She further emphasized that men should treat women with dignity and not see them as inferior. According to her, the notion that women belong solely in the kitchen or should be spoken to in a demeaning manner is outdated and should be discarded.
“I believe that we are not the weaker gender. Men are supposed to treat women specially, with respect. Also, men should not feel a woman belongs to the kitchen and should be talked to anyhow,” she added.
Akindele also underscored the significance of women’s financial independence, noting that economic stability is a key factor in maintaining both personal freedom and the ability to support their families.
“We women are strong and bold. Our economic power is very important; that is why we should make sure we have the power and protect the power so we can support our husbands,” she asserted.
The actress and filmmaker has long been an advocate for gender equality, using her platform to encourage women to be confident, ambitious, and self-sufficient while fostering healthy, respectful relationships.
