A wave of shock and outrage has swept through the Nemhari community in Zimbabwe following the startling revelations surrounding Augustine Marimo, a man accused of stealing over 30 women’s panties to perform disturbing sexual rituals known locally as mubobobo.
Marimo’s secret acts came to light during a traditional court session presided over by Headman Nemhari. Several victims were in attendance, alongside Marimo and his mother, Fridah Chiweshe.
He reportedly stole the undergarments from washing lines and communal bathing areas, targeting unsuspecting women in the neighborhood.
One woman, who chose to remain anonymous, said she initially attended the session merely to confirm the rumors. But to her horror, she identified a pair of panties that once belonged to her late sister—an item she hadn’t even realized was missing.
“The thought that it had been used in a sex ritual was sickening,” she said.
According to witnesses, Marimo did not deny the allegations. Instead, he provided a chilling confession. He claimed he would lay the stolen panties on his bed, masturbate on them, and vividly imagine sexual encounters with the women they belonged to—all without their knowledge or consent.

The same woman recounted how her marriage began falling apart around the time her underwear disappeared. She noted that intimacy between her and her husband ceased nearly two years ago. “At first, he was concerned. But over time, he became emotionally distant,” she lamented.
Further disturbing details emerged when Marimo claimed he was influenced by a mysterious spiritual voice. He reportedly told the traditional court that this voice directed him to commit the acts and warned him not to reveal its origins or face dire consequences.
Community members expressed deep concern and outrage over how long Marimo’s actions had gone unnoticed. The incident has raised questions about the safety of women and the need for greater communal vigilance.
Traditional authorities are now under pressure to act decisively, not only to punish the offender but also to reassure residents and restore a sense of safety and dignity, particularly for the women affected.
As investigations continue, residents are calling for spiritual cleansing and stronger cultural safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
