Nigerian rapper Ice Prince, born Panshak Zamani, recently shared his harrowing experience of spending six days at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos.
This came after his September 2022 arrest on charges of allegedly assaulting a police officer.Speaking candidly about the ordeal, the artist described his time in prison as “horrible.”
He emphasized that, unlike what some might assume about celebrities, he was treated no differently than any other inmate. “It’s a prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I didn’t get any,” he revealed.
The musician also reflected on the emotional and social challenges faced within the prison system. Despite the tough conditions, Ice Prince formed bonds with fellow inmates, referring to the environment as “a different institution of higher learning.”
He said, “I made friends in there. We hung out and chatted. “
Addressing misconceptions surrounding his arrest, Ice Prince described the situation as a misunderstanding.
He claimed that what started as a joke with a police officer escalated when he drove off during a stop-and-search operation.
“I have seen a lot of celebrities and public figures who went to police cells come out to brag as if they went through some sht.
If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen it yet. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it,” he said, adding that he met numerous innocent people during his short stint behind bars.
