Controversial street-hop artist Portable has boldly declared himself a global star, asserting that Nigerian rap icon and YBNL boss, Olamide, can no longer sign him.
Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, Portable praised British rapper Skepta for his immense support, highlighting that Skepta went beyond a simple collaboration to genuinely uplift him.
In contrast, he downplayed Olamide’s role in his rise to fame, stating that while the rapper contributed a verse to his breakout hit Zazuu, he did not provide further guidance or management.
“I can’t drag Skepta because he held my hand,” Portable said. “Olamide didn’t hold my hand—he just gave me a verse on ‘Zazuu’ and left me without management. He can’t sign me now because I’m big.”
Olamide played a pivotal role in Portable’s emergence when he featured on the remix of Zazuu in 2021, a collaboration that helped push the song to a wider audience and catapult Portable into the mainstream.
Despite acknowledging the song’s impact, Portable insists that his current success has placed him beyond Olamide’s reach in the industry.
Since his breakout, Portable has become one of Nigeria’s most controversial yet talked-about musicians, known for his raw street style and unfiltered opinions. His recent remarks further cement his reputation for stirring conversations within the entertainment industry.
