Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed concerns about the overwhelming presence of security checkpoints in the South East region of Nigeria.
In a recent post on his Instagram page, the celebrated actor shared his frustration, asking, “Is the South East still part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?”
He further highlighted the difficulties travelers face along the Enugu-Onitsha road, specifically mentioning the excessive number of police and army checkpoints. “Have you counted the number of Police/Army checkpoints on the Enugu/Onitsha road? The humiliation, extortion, etc,” he wrote, shedding light on what many residents in the region perceive as unjust treatment.
Kanayo’s remarks have sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians resonating with his message. The South East, particularly areas like Enugu and Onitsha, has long been subject to heavy military and police presence due to ongoing security challenges.
However, the checkpoints have also been criticized for becoming hotspots for extortion and harassment of civilians, with many calling for reform in how security operations are conducted.Kanayo O.
