Nollywood actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has shared the amusing yet heartfelt story of how he proposed to his wife, actress Bimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji, fondly known as Mo Bimpe.
During a recent interview with Chude, Lateef recounted how Mo Bimpe initially thought his proposal was a joke.
“I called her and told her I wanted to ask her something. Then I said I wanted to marry her,” Lateef revealed.
“She was just joking, like, ‘What is doing this one? Get out! I can’t marry a Muslim; are you okay? My daddy won’t even hear that.’’

Mo Bimpe’s skepticism stemmed from her father’s presumed disapproval due to Lateef’s Islamic faith. Determined to win her over, Lateef arranged a meeting with her father to seek his blessings.
“We went to her village during one of their masquerade festivals. Towards the end, I asked to see her dad,” he shared.
Lateef promised to care for Mo Bimpe, and her father eventually gave his blessing. “He said he’d pray and get back to me, and that was it.”
The couple, known for keeping their romantic relationship private, had consistently denied dating rumors before their marriage.
However, Lateef disclosed they had dated for only about three months before tying the knot. “The proposal wasn’t planned because we just dated for like two, three months and then we got married,” he added.
Their union was sealed in December 2021 with a traditional wedding in Ekiti State, followed by a Nikkai ceremony in Lagos State.
Lateef Adedimeji and Mo Bimpe are one of the most famous couples in the Nigerian movie industry today. The couple have been celebrated for their part in the newly released “Lisabi” (The Saga) movie.
