By Fasuyi Tolulope Samuel

In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Nigerian artist May D confidently declared that he was once on par with music giants Wizkid and Davido, even claiming to have surpassed them at some point.

May D referenced his breakout single, Soundtrack, comparing its success to Wizkid’s hit Holla at Your Boy.

He remarked, “Then it was Wizkid, David, and I. I was even like bigger. Wetin be Holla at Your Boy compared to Soundtrack?”

The singer also shared insights into his career trajectory, hinting that Wizkid’s rise to stardom was partly influenced by his departure from Square Records, a label May D was once signed to.

May D, whose real name is Akinmayokun Awodumila, gained fame as a talented singer, songwriter, and dancer.

He rose to prominence in the early 2010s with hit tracks like Soundtrack and Ile Ijo, which became party anthems across Nigeria.

Despite parting ways with Square Records under controversial circumstances, May D continued to release music independently, showcasing his artistry in singles and collaborations with notable artists.

The artiste was briefly signed to Davido’s DMW records after leaving Square Records before becoming an independent artiste too.
