More Trouble for Libya as CAF Heaps More Sanctions

It is more woe for Libya as CAF has slammed them another punishment. Remember a few weeks ago, CAF fined them and awarded Nigerian all three points, its sadness now as they have slammed another fine.

CAF Slam Libya New Sanctions

The new sanctions include a $20,000 fine and two upcoming matches behind closed doors. The latest sanctions come in the wake of Libya’s appeal against the initial decision by CAF, which saw Nigeria awarded three points and three goals after an airport debacle involving the visitors in Libya.

During their journey to Benghazi for the October 15 AFCON qualifier, Nigeria’s national team had their flight diverted to Al-Abraq Airport, where they were stranded for over 18 hours, forcing them to boycott the AFCON return leg match and return home. CAF investigated it and found them guilty.

They ruled that Libya violated several regulations in handling the Nigerian team’s arrival, leading to a forfeited match and a $50,000 fine. Libya, however, swiftly filed an appeal, seeking to reverse the victory awarded to Nigeria.

This sanction is said to be because, Libya is found of doing such to their visitors. This action now will serve as a big warming to them and to other countries.

They claimed Nigeria did it to them first but upon investigation it was found to be false. CAF decision has shown that they will not tolerate maltreatment and poor hosting.
