One prominent figure is Basketmouth, originally a rapper before gaining fame as a comedian. He made a notable return to music with albums like “Yabassi,” featuring collaborations with industry heavyweights like Flavour and Phyno. His music explores storytelling that reflects his comedic and artistic range.
Nasboi, another skit maker, transitioned into music with his 2024 debut album titled “I.N.I.T (In Nasboi I Trust).” The album includes popular hits such as “Umbrella” featuring Wande Coal, which earned him critical acclaim and award nominations. The project showcases Nasboi’s ability to blend humor and Afrobeat sounds, cementing his presence in both entertainment spheres.
Carter Efe is another standout artist, whose viral hit “Machala” celebrates Nigerian superstar Wizkid. The song captured the hearts of fans, further blurring the lines between comedy and music. Efe’s success reflects the power of fan dedication and relatable content.
Oluwadolarz, known for his online skits, has also dabbled in music, highlighting the challenges of securing record deals in the competitive Nigerian music scene. Despite these hurdles, his ventures into music are a testament to his creative versatility.
Finally, Helen Paul, renowned for her “childlike” comedic persona and radio alias “Tataafo,” contributed her unique voice to Nigerian music when it was sampled by Psquare in one of their tracks. Though she hasn’t released her own album, her impact remains influential across multiple entertainment mediums.
