The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, had been declared wanted.
A widely shared poster with the inscription “SPECIAL POLICE WANTED” and carrying the actress’s photograph went viral on Tuesday and Wednesday, sparking widespread reactions among Nigerians.
The poster alleged that Ojo was being sought by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.
In a swift reaction, the police, through an official statement released on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, described the so-called wanted notice as fake, misleading, and not issued by the Force.
The statement read:
“Clarification on Police Gazette Bulletin of Wanted Person: The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin circulating about stating that the Nollywood Actress, Iyabo Ojo, is wanted by the Office of the IGP Monitoring Unit is NOT an official communication from the Force.”
The Force further urged members of the public to disregard the viral poster and remain cautious about misinformation. It emphasized that only official police channels should be relied upon for verified information.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to verify information through official channels and be cautious of misinformation,” the statement added.

The denial comes after the fake poster generated heated discussions across social media platforms, with many fans and followers of the actress demanding clarification.
Iyabo Ojo, known for her outspoken personality and strong presence in the entertainment industry, has not issued a personal statement on the matter at the time of this report. However, the Police’s clarification is expected to calm speculations and put to rest the concerns raised by the misleading publication.
With the rise of fake news and impersonation online, the NPF reiterated its commitment to tackling misinformation while assuring Nigerians that any official declaration or wanted notice will always be disseminated through legitimate channels.
