Despite serving a 30-year sentence, R. Kelly hasn’t lost his love for music. The embattled R&B singer recently gave a rare podcast interview where he showcased his vocal skills, singing snippets of two of his classic hits.
Appearing on the Inmate Tea with A&P podcast, Kelly performed parts of When a Woman’s Fed Up (1998) and Step in the Name of Love (2003).
He described music as an inseparable part of his life, stating, “Singing is a beautiful disease that’s uncurable … I’m always singing.”
The singer, convicted on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, revealed that he has remained productive while incarcerated, claiming to have written 25 albums behind bars. Currently housed in a federal prison in North Carolina, Kelly expressed optimism about securing his release.

He shared that he is “working on getting out” and using “patience as a tactic” to regain his freedom. However, his legal battles remain far from over. In addition to his federal conviction, Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in Chicago for federal sex crimes.
Despite the hefty sentence, a judge ruled that only one extra year would be added to his existing 30-year term, with the remaining 19 years running concurrently.
Earlier this year, in February, a federal appeals court upheld Kelly’s racketeering conviction and sentence, reinforcing his long-term imprisonment. His attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, remains hopeful about his legal prospects.
Speaking to TMZ, she stated, “I just visited with him yesterday, and he was in good spirits. He is not a broken man and no one should count him out. Our appeals process has not come to an end.
We will continue to fight for justice and for his freedom. ”While Kelly’s legal battles continue, his passion for music appears undiminished. Whether his claims of writing 25 albums in prison will lead to new releases remains to be seen, but the singer insists that music will always be a part of him.
