Nigerian rapper, Reminisce, has clapped back at an online troll who questioned the relevance of his music career.
The social media drama unfolded when a user with the handle @nextdangote took to X (formerly Twitter) to throw shade at the rapper, stating, “Them no dey play your gbedu again,” implying that Reminisce’s music is no longer popular.
Known for his sharp wit and street-savvy lyrics, Reminisce wasted no time responding to the jab. The rapper, fondly called Baba Hafusa by fans, fired back with, “Dey play! 1 kobo Iya e o ni rigba!”—a statement in Yoruba, meaning “They still play it! 1 kobo your mother won’t receive.”
This clever retort not only defended his musical relevance but also hinted at the troll’s possible financial motives, as it appeared the critic might be looking to cash in on some drama.
This exchange quickly gained traction, with fans rallying behind Reminisce, applauding his ability to shut down naysayers effortlessly. It was clear that the rapper is not one to be taken lightly when it comes to defending his craft.
Reminisce, born Remilekun Khalid Safaru, has made an indelible mark on the Nigerian music scene since his debut. Starting out as an underground artist, he found mainstream success with his 2012 album Book of Rap Stories.
