Nigerian singer and internet sensation Speed Darlington, born Darlington Okoye, was arrested on November 27, 2024, in Owerri, Imo State, by Nigerian police.

His arrest occurred shortly after his return for a scheduled performance.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the incident, stating, “BREAKING: Our client Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”

The specific charges remain undisclosed. Known for his eccentric personality and controversial remarks, Darlington is no stranger to legal troubles.

This latest arrest follows a pattern of run-ins with the authorities, including a high-profile October 2024 incident where he was detained over cyberstalking allegations filed by fellow artist Burna Boy.

The allegations stemmed from online altercations, with Burna Boy accusing Darlington of persistent harassment. Following this, Darlington was apprehended in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

His mother publicly voiced concerns, alleging foul play involving Burna Boy’s team.Despite the serious accusations, Darlington was released after several days in custody, with Adeyanju leading his defense and thanking supporters for their role in securing bail.

Questions remain about the substance of these claims, with some suggesting a lack of concrete evidence behind the petitions.

Darlington’s vibrant social media presence and outspoken views have garnered a mixed reputation, often drawing both admiration and criticism. His comment, “I’d rather die lonely than marry a woman above 30,” exemplifies his provocative nature.
