Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems has finally broken her silence over the persistent body shaming she has endured throughout her career, delivering a bold and unapologetic message to critics.
Following her standout performance at the Root Picnic 2025, where she captivated fans with her mesmerizing vocals and magnetic stage presence, Tems took to social media to call out the ongoing obsession with her body.
The singer, who has faced unsolicited commentary for years, expressed that she’s reached her limit. “Okay 7 years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it but you are all weird. ‘It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.’ Dog IT’S MINE,” she wrote, directly quoting the hurtful remarks that have followed her for years.

In a follow-up post, Tems clapped back at those who have objectified her, emphasizing that her artistry should not be overshadowed by conversations about her physique.
“Show us your bumbum’ lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see’, Nah show ME yours first?? See how that feels?” she wrote. “It’s just a body. I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body, I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone.”
The singer ended her statement by affirming her self-worth and independence from public opinion: “The more you don’t like my body the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum.”
Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, rose to international prominence with her hit single “Try Me” and later gained widespread recognition for her feature on Wizkid’s global smash hit Essence.
Her soulful voice and distinctive sound have earned her critical acclaim, including a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her work on “Wait for U” with Future and Drake. She has also collaborated with global stars such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Drake, cementing her place as one of Africa’s leading music exports.
