TikTok Is Not Your Father’s House—Lawyer Slams Peller Over #30DaysRant Warning

By Fasuyi Tolulope Samuel

Nigerian social media influencer, Peller, has cautioned citizens participating in the viral #30DaysRantChallenge against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, warning them to take their grievances elsewhere instead of using TikTok.

In a widely shared post on X (formerly Twitter), Peller expressed fears that continued criticism of the government on the platform could lead to a nationwide ban.

He urged Nigerians to voice their frustrations in public spaces like markets rather than risk losing access to TikTok.

“If you want to rant, go to the market. Go and rant there. Don’t rant on TikTok. If they ban TikTok, we’ll have issues,” he stated in a video that quickly gained traction online.

His comments sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians criticizing his stance. Among them was prominent lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, who lambasted Peller for his remarks.

“Tiktok is not your father’s house. You should be in school,” Adeyanju said, dismissing the influencer’s concerns as misplaced.

Peller’s warning comes amid mounting public outrage over Nigeria’s economic struggles, with citizens taking to various social media platforms to express their frustrations.

Many argue that restricting discussions to physical locations would stifle free speech and prevent widespread awareness of pressing issues. While some supported Peller’s caution, fearing a government crackdown on the platform, others viewed his statement as an attempt to silence criticism.

As the debate rages on, TikTok remains a major hub for digital activism in Nigeria, with users leveraging its reach to amplify their voices.
