Nollywood actress and producer Ufuoma McDermott has openly discussed her personal struggle with Stage 4 kidney disease, a condition she says has deeply impacted her life.
In an emotional revelation, McDermott shared that her health issues began with chronic pain management following her younger brother’s death from the same illness.
Initially diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease, McDermott’s condition progressed to Stage 4, exacerbated by prolonged reliance on pain medication and delays in receiving timely treatment. She recalled facing particularly severe health challenges last year, fearing that her condition had reached a critical point.
Reflecting on her battle, McDermott explained, “I had pushed my body and I was borderline Stage 4. Last year was a very, very trying time in my life where I thought I was going to die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now.”
Determined to use her experience to help others, McDermott emphasizes the importance of early medical intervention and public awareness about kidney health. She hopes her story will inspire others to prioritize preventive care.
Born on April 18, 1981, in Benin City, Nigeria, Ufuoma McDermott has had a distinguished career in Nollywood. She began as a model before transitioning to acting, quickly becoming known for her versatility and depth in roles across various film genres.
McDermott has appeared in popular films, including “The Meeting,” “Nneka the Pretty Serpent,” “The Wrong Woman,” and “The Wedding Party.” She is married to filmmaker John McDermott, with whom she has two children.
