La liga champions Barcelona lost at home in the 37th game of the 2024/25 La liga season. The La liga champions could not give their home fans something to smile home as they fell to the hands of the Yellow Sub-marins. Two stunning goals from Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez were not enough to give them a last home win.
The visitors Villareal clinched a place in the top five and next season’s Champions League with the comeback success. Barcelona tried to initiate a come back but it did not work. Villareal had gone ahead very early in the game but Barca came back into the game.
Lamine Yamal scored a stunning goal to level the scores. Minutes later, Lopez scored to bring the home team back on track. A cross was cleared out to Fermin on the edge of the penalty area and he needed just two touches. The first to control and another to shoot, before sending a stinging half-volley past Luiz Junior in the visitor’s goal.
Villarreal found themselves under pressure for much of the first half. They however came back better as they got levelled five minutes after the break. Santi Comesana ran on to Yeremy Pino’s perfect through-ball and dinked over the onrushing Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
A total of 26 goals have now been scored in the last four meetings between Barcelona (14 goals) and Villarreal (12) in La Liga, more than any other fixture since the start of last season.
