Wizkid, Nigeria’s Grammy-winning Afrobeats sensation, has achieved a historic Spotify milestone, setting the record for the highest number of streams on debut day by a Nigerian artist.
In a breakthrough moment, five of his tracks dominated first-day Spotify streams, surpassing millions in just 24 hours.
Leading the chart was “Piece of My Heart,” which amassed an impressive 1 million streams, showcasing Wizkid’s ability to create globally resonant music.
This track, which features Brent Faiyaz infused with heartfelt lyrics and vibrant Afrobeat rhythms, has rapidly become a fan favorite. The song embodies themes of love, resilience, and self-reflection, highlighting Wizkid’s versatility in blending personal storytelling with upbeat Afro-pop sounds.
Following closely, “MMS” recorded 870,000 streams. Here, Asake featured Wizkid in a song which title means ‘Mr Money Sound’. Known for its catchy hooks and smooth flow, “MMS” brings a signature Wizkid sound, combining Afrobeat grooves with subtle hints of reggae and R&B.
With strong beats and memorable lines, it’s a testament to his evolution as an artist who continuously reinvents Afrobeat to appeal to both local and international audiences.
Another highlight, “IDK” featuring Zlatan Ibile garnered 626,000 streams. This track stands out for its infectious rhythms and lyrical depth, making it a testament to Wizkid’s creative range. On this track, he pushes thematic boundaries, exploring themes of identity and fame while maintaining the magnetic energy his fans adore.
The soulful ballad “Ololufe” featuring Wande Coal drawing in 527,000 streams, captures Wizkid’s softer side. Finally, “Diamonds” earned 518,000 streams. This track exudes sophistication, blending Afrobeats with elements of jazz and hip-hop. Its reflective lyrics and understated beats add a unique flavor to Wizkid’s discography, appealing to fans who appreciate a more refined sound.
