Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar has launched a staggering N3 billion lawsuit against the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, following her controversial suspension over allegations of spreading false rumors as earlier reported by Mikigist.
The lawsuit comes in response to AGN’s claim that Halima had been involved in disseminating unverified stories about fellow actors and prominent industry figures, an accusation that the actress vehemently denies.
AGN had announced her indefinite suspension on October 17, after concluding a two-year investigation that implicated Halima in a series of slanderous activities, including allegations of extramarital affairs among Nollywood elites.
The news rocked the industry, with the Guild asserting that her actions violated its code of conduct.In her defense, Halima Abubakar has come out swinging, alleging that the AGN president capitalized on her ongoing health struggles to malign her character.
On October 20, 2024, her legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, sent a letter to Rollas demanding that he retract the Instagram post that announced her suspension, issue a public apology, and pay damages amounting to three billion naira (approximately $7.5 million).
The letter reads, “Rather than show concern for our client’s fundamental rights to fair hearing and privacy, you chose this delicate moment to push your false narrative.”
Halima’s team emphasized that the “false publications” had gravely tarnished her reputation, describing the Guild’s statements as an orchestrated attempt to “stir up social opprobrium” against her.
The letter also criticized Rollas for failing to offer a fair hearing to Halima, a well-known figure in the Nigerian film industry, during a time when she was particularly vulnerable.
“Your false publication has damaged the reputation of our client and continues to do so with each passing minute,” the demand letter stated, referencing the widespread media coverage of AGN’s initial claims.
With a seven-day deadline set for Rollas to comply with their demands, Halima’s legal team has made it clear that further legal action will follow if the AGN president does not act promptly.
