Actress Lilian Afegbai Laments Cost of Asoebi By Lagosians

Popular Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has raised concerns over the rising trend of selling Asoebi in dollars for weddings in Lagos.

She took to Instagram to express her shock after receiving an invitation that required attendees to purchase Asoebi for a staggering $1,200.

Narrating her experience, Lilian initially assumed the price was in naira and was excited about what she thought was an affordability shift in Lagos. However, upon closer inspection, she realized the amount was quoted in dollars, leaving her stunned at the exorbitant cost.

She recounted: “Na so one lady invite me, I come check the invite see 1200, I come shock dey ask say 1200 naira? Na so I come dey happy say things don dey change for Lagos.

Na him I say make I just blink, na him I see dollar sign for the 1200. Na him I say hey, wetin dey occur for here. I quickly carry my phone, times 1200 x 1600. How many million naira be that? For Asoebi wey I go wear one time?” she added.

Her revelation has sparked reactions from social media users, with many sharing their disbelief at the rising cost of wedding culture in Lagos.

A user, @southside_goddess, joked: “Ehn, e no suppose hard, shey dem say baddies? Just denounce baddie title for now.”

Another user, @meggie_empire165, suggested the high cost of fabric might be a factor, saying:“ The price they bought the material must be very expensive then for her to sell at that amount. That person go dey regret why she message you now. Make una no dey invite this girl again before she open una yansh.”

@tcm_brand humorously asked: “Lily, which one is ‘I can never forget dollar sign?’”

Lilian’s post has sparked conversations about the growing financial demands placed on wedding guests in Nigeria, with many questioning the necessity of such extravagant Asoebi prices.
