Tomeka Thiam, the longtime wife of globally renowned singer and songwriter Akon, has reportedly filed for divorce, bringing an end to their nearly three-decade marriage.
The couple, who married on September 15, 1996, share a 17-year-old child together. According to TMZ, Tomeka filed the divorce petition just four days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending the marriage.
Court documents reveal that Tomeka Thiam is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their teenage child. She is also seeking spousal support but has made it clear that Akon should not receive any financial support from her.
Tomeka, a successful entrepreneur and hairstylist, owns a well-known beauty salon in Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia, and has built an independent brand over the years.
Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, has often been candid about his unconventional lifestyle and views on relationships.
The multi-award-winning artist and philanthropist has fathered multiple children with different women and has publicly shared his perspective on polygamy, sparking conversations and debates over the years.
Both parties are yet to make a comment on the recent developments while fans have been talking on social media.
