The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has met the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deadline. The NFF submitted all necessary documents after what happened when Nigeria when the Super Eagles visited Libya for the their return leg.
Remember the whole controversy started after the Nigerian team’s flight, bound for Benghazi, was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq Airport. While the NFF has met CAF deadline, the LFF has engaged legal representation, distancing itself from the situation by claiming that the flight diversion was a decision made by Libyan state authorities, not the football federation.
Before the Super Eagles of Nigeria officially pulled out, the NFF lodged a formal complaint with the CAF. In the letter NFF accused the Libyan authorities of unacceptable treatment against the Nigerian players.
CAF responded by condemning the incident, labeling the treatment of the Nigerian delegation as “despicable.” The NFF and the Libya Football Federation (LFF) were instructed to submit detailed event accounts by October 20.The Nigerian Football Federation has now responded and met with the requirements given by CAF.
We now awaits the response or the action CAF will take against the Libyan National team. Before the Nigerian team left Libya, one of Nigerian’s striker Victor Boniface said “we have left the game, you people can claim all three points,” on his X account.
Now we don’t know if the game will be counted walk over and all three points given to Libyan or if they will reschedule for another day for the game to be played. Meanwhile, four countries have already qualified for the tournament and they are Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo and Senegal.
