Nigerian chess maestro and coach, Tunde Onakoya, recently visited the home of veteran Nigerian rapper, Eldee the Don, in Atlanta, where he and his Chess in Slums kids enjoyed a warm reception.

Onakoya shared the memorable experience on his X page, posting a video from the visit. “The legendary @eLDeeTheDon and his amazing family graciously hosted us at their home in Atlanta yesterday,” he wrote.

During the visit, the group engaged in friendly chess matches in Eldee’s backyard, took a ride in his Tesla Cybertruck, and shared a hearty meal. Just before they left, they were met with a touching surprise.

His incredibly kind wife surprised all the kids with brand new tablets,” Onakoya revealed.

In the video posted, the former rapper turned real estate expert in the US charged the kids, telling them that they would be everywhere and reach greater heights.

Eldee the Don, whose real name is Lanre Dabiri, is a pioneering figure in Nigerian hip-hop. He gained prominence in the early 2000s as the leader of Trybesmen, one of Nigeria’s first rap collectives.

Eldee, now based in the United States, transitioned from music to technology, where he has built a successful career.

Onakoya, a champion of chess as a tool for social transformation, has dedicated his Chess in Slums initiative to empowering underprivileged children through the game.
