R&B superstar Chris Brown was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, May 15, 2025, at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, England, in connection with an alleged assault that occurred in February 2023.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the 36-year-old singer was taken into custody shortly after 2:00 a.m. on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
The arrest relates to an incident at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abraham “Abe” Diaw with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila.
Diaw alleges that Brown struck him multiple times on the head with the bottle, then proceeded to punch and kick him, rendering him unconscious. The assault reportedly resulted in head lacerations and torn leg ligaments, requiring hospitalization.

In October 2023, Diaw filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking $16 million (£12 million) in damages for the alleged assault and subsequent defamation.
Brown’s arrest comes just weeks before the commencement of his “Breezy Bowl XX Tour,” a global celebration of his 20-year career, with scheduled performances in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Dublin. The ongoing investigation may impact the UK leg of the tour.
The singer has a history of legal issues, including a 2009 felony assault conviction involving then-girlfriend Rihanna and a 2017 restraining order obtained by ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
Brown recently called for the release of rapper Tory Lanez who was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed multiple times in prison. The rapper has been in prison for allegedly shooting female rapper, Meghan Thee Stallion.
